Concert and Dinner following the worship service which begins at 6:30 pm. Our guest performer will be Eliana Kissner . She brings a background in cantorial music, ladino, and Jewish Middle Eastern music to a unique style of spiritual performance. She will share her contemporary take on melodies from the Middle East and North Africa as well as some original songs which hybridize these ancient styles with current sounds.

Friday, March 13, 2015 following services which begin at 8:00 pm - ZIMRIYAH Music Festival. This year our Zimriyah will feature the amazing Yair Dalal. Yair, a composer, violinist, oud player and singer, is a prolific musician who plays an important role in shaping the global world music scene. He is an Israeli musician of Iraqi-Jewish descent. Yair performs all over the world. Cantor says, “I am so excited to bring him to our community.”

Thank you for your patience as I recover from the total knee replacement surgery last month. I am back on my feet (literally) and ready to resume my classes and seminars at Temple Beth Sholom.
In another 10 days we will gather for Kol Nidre - the evening service of Yom Kipppur that is given that name by the opening prayer that launches us into 24 hours of fasting and asking for forgiveness. In preparation, I thought it might be instructive to review some of its history and some of the concepts we encounter in KN.
